Adelaide Blackhawks

This is the 49th year the adelaide Blackhawks have played hockey in south australia. Over the years many flags and trophies have been claimed by the club and we have been a large part of ice hockey here in south australia. Over the past decade the club has slightly lost its way and has been slowly fading away. I believe now is the time in the lead up towards our 50th anniversary to pull together and rebuild the club and ensure we will be around for the next 50 years to come.

Over the past few years Blackhawks team and board members have worked hard to strengthen the club financially and make it possible for us to once again try and expand the club. We plan to once again introduce a second B grade team into the competition and they will play under the name of Blackhawks 2, the same Blackhawks uniforms will be worn except for when both our teams play each other, the home team will wear our white uniform.

The teams will be decided by our coaching panel and board. The second team will NOT be a development team as previously discussed, the Blackhawks 1 team will be slightly stronger with a 60/40 split of our top players based on pointstreak scoring and coaches recommendations. This will ensure both teams have a strong presence in the competition and some great hockey may be played by all. We are looking at drafting more players than usual from both the C grade and bantam drafts to fill in the teams. Team numbers in both A and B grade may be limited to ensure all teams In the club have enough players to be competitive.
Some players may be asked to play up or down a division if needed.

By entering this second team we are making it possible for the club to grow and allow players to move around within the club, it also makes it possible for A grade players to be able to play in B grade games if they miss a game and vice versa.

With the club the way it is at the minute we have no room for new players to play for the club and we are unable to develop future A grade players.

I hope everybody can see and appreciate what we are trying to achieve.

This seasons fees will be $550, this is a slight increase due to the ice arena increasing ice costs, however an early bird discount of $50 is being offered to people who pay their fees in full prior to their first game. Anybody with outstanding fee's by the end of round 1 in both leagues will not be able to step on the ice until this is payed in full.

We are going to request fortnightly time slots for trainings again and I will be looking for volunteers to help collect and deposit money from trainings.

This is going to be a really big year for the club and may carve out our future here in south Australian hockey, I hope everyone is looking forward to being a part of it.

Thank you.
